Pigs and poultry BAT up for revision

A second draft of the revised guidance document for best available techniques (known as a BAT BREF) for poultry and pigs was presented in early august. It contains a more complete set of emissions data than the existing guidance document that was agreed in 2003.

The proposal includes associated emission levels of ammonia, dust and odour for BAT techniques within four categories: laying hens, broilers, ducks and turkeys.  The document also describes BAT techniques for manure storage and manure spreading.

Stakeholders may submit comments until 21 October.
