New EU air quality rules formally adopted
The EU's revised Ambient Air Quality Directive (AAQD) was officially adopted at the EU Environment Council on 14 October, with broad support from member states and only one abstention. The updated directive sets stricter limits for the most common air pollutants by 2030. However, member states may request a deadline extension of up to ten years under specific conditions.
“We now want to see their leadership and commitment also when it comes to implementing the revised law, which means that they should transpose the new law swiftly”, said Anne Stauffer, Deputy Director of the Health and Environment Alliance.
