End of diesel for Singapore cars and taxis

The Singapore Land Transport Authority has announced that from 2025, new registrations of diesel cars and taxis will be ceased, in accordance with the 2040 vision of Singapore’s clean energy and mobility.
In recent years, new registrations of diesel vehicles have been low in Singapore, and the Authority will stop registering new vehicles from the start of 2025. Existing vehicles at that time will continue to be able to operate, but will be taxed and charged higher road taxes to discourage renewal and ongoing use.
Diesel combustion vehicles have been a leading cause of particulate matter pollution and of morbidity and mortality from car-related air pollution. Singapore has identified road transport as a leading cause of air pollution and has put in a place a number of limitations on diesel vehicles, including low-sulphur fuel mixes, concordance with Euro ratings, and smoke opacity ratings during renewal for diesel cars.
