Zero emission zones the next step for clean cities
A Clean Cities Campaign analysis of the most comprehensive database of lowemission zones in the EU-27, the UK and Norway shows that there is sustained momentum and a new wave of low-emission zones being set up, taking the total from 228 to 320 between 2019 and 2022, and rising to 507 by 2025. Also by 2025, at least 27 existing LEZs will have been expanded or set progressively stricter restrictions for polluting vehicles. Zeroemission zones (ZEZs), which will no longer allow the use of vehicles with internal combustion engines, are also emerging.
