Introduction: Almost 70 percent of the land area of Sweden is forest land. Karin Bergqvist describes how important forests are for people, communities and biodiversity, and how they are used and managed in Sweden. Autumn 2023: It’s Saturday morning and I’m walking through the forest towards a pine bog with about twenty other people, all with magnifying glasses hanging from lanyards around their necks. We are members of a botanical society and today we are going to learn how to identify different species of sphagnum moss.
