Activists worldwide say ‘No’ to coal
In December, the Sierra Club released its annual “Move Beyond Coal” report, highlighting communities and activists around the world that are organising to defeat power plants and mines that pollute air and water and cause harm to the health and safety of the environment.
From the aquamarine waters off Cirebon, Indonesia, to the historic Appalachian mountains of the United States, to the lush biodiversity of the Konkan coast of India, communities have issued a call to end the coal industry’s wanton destruction and to seize the opportunity that clean energy presents.
Grassroots activism is empowering people and protecting the planet. The report presents case stories from this growing movement.
